Yoga Certification & Fitness Background
I'm a Certified Integral Yoga Instructor, Levels I, II, and III, with over 15 years' teaching experience. I have had the pleasure of working with thousands of students of all ages and fitness backgrounds, from seniors to those with health challenges to elite athletes. I offer gentle support in finding the approach to yoga that fits a person's body and temperment. In addition to classes and priavte instruction, I have also taught in numerous teachers' training programs, including three years as Head of Yoga Teachers' Training at Satchidananda Ashram, an internationally-acclaimed program for aspriring yoga instructors.
Along with teaching yoga, I have been a dedicated student of fitness and nutrition for over 25 years and, again, have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of students achieve greater health and performance. I am not certified as a trainer for the simple reason that I have yet to see a program that truly reflects the latest research in optimal training, but I have applied myself diligently for the past two and a half decades learning everything I can about the most effective teachniques for building over-all health and performance. I am dedicated to presenting the most efficient tools for true function and energy and never recommend a technique or training method I have not personally practiced and rigorously studied. Finally, in all my work with both yoga and fitness clients safety and well-being is my greatest concern and I have never had a student or client injure him or herself following my guidance....
Education & Teaching Experience
In addition to my background in yoga & health education, I hold a degree in Comparative Religion & Philosophy from Hampshire College where I had the opportunity to study with such renowned scholars of Yoga & Buddhist philosophy as Robert Thurman, Dennis Hudson, and Taitetsu Unno. I have taught meditation, Eastern philosophy, and comparative religion for over 25 years and have had the pleasure of working with students of all backgrounds and ages, from elementary school students to adults.
Further teaching experience includes working as a high school teacher, a corporate trainer, and as a philosophy teacher at an ashram. I feel this has given me considerable experience working with a wide variety of audiences, which in turn has allowed me to offer a range of approaches for my clients in the world of health & fitness. I can help you learn new techniques and principles in a way that is comfortable for you....
